Guided tours at IPP

Visitors by appointment are most welcome to the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching and Greifswald. Guided tours are available from Monday to Friday.
We offer group tours; individuals can join a group.

Tours last approximately two hours and are free of charge. Please book your visit in good time by phone or in writing.
 


IPP Garching (near Munich)

Tours of the institute in Garching start with an introduction to the principles of fusion research. Then the ASDEX Upgrade fusion device, the pulse generators for powering the device as well as an exhibition on fusion research in the visitor centre can be visited.

Guided tours for visitors will be possible again in Garching from November 2025.

IPP Greifswald

Having completed a successful operating phase, guided tours are now available again at the IPP Greifswald. You may schedule an appointment by phone (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) or email.

During the tour, you will receive an introductory lecture providing comprehensive insight into our work and developments in the field of fusion research. Following this, you will be given a guided tour of the Wendelstein7-X fusion facility.
